From draft to as-built…
It is common for document control solutions used for the design and construction phase to be completely separated from the maintenance phase of the asset. At the end of the project, the many documents and records created are handed over to another system, creating a massive puzzle to be completed. What if the handover would run continuously, drip-feeding the as-built repository as soon as documents reach as-built status, instead of throwing it over the fence?
The heart of any asset document & record management solution is the as-built repository. From here working copies are handed out to operations and maintenance, as well as capital projects. A good solution allows for concurrent handouts of as-builts. See which projects as-built records are handed out to, be notified when the document/drawing you are working on has been updated, and reconcile any discrepancies. When a document is approved as as-built in a project it is returned to the as-built repository at the click of a button, superseding the former as-built.
